Linn Basik Lv V Tone Arm

I didn't have the greatest luck with my Basik LV-X arm, either. Oddly enough, I did do a highly unusual rebuild on a Basik LV-V (S shape tonearm) - while it's vertical bearings and armtube were intact, the horizontal (pillar) bearing races were damaged beyond any sort of repair (dimpled and non-replaceable). My technician adjusted vertical bearings but could not reach to horizontal bearings. Does someone have service manual for LVV or tips how to disassemble it? First of all, there is no service manual for this arm. It is a budget arm with 'no user adjustments or serviceable parts'.What do you mean by 'some play' (I bolded it above)? When I first started working on Linn and Rega turntables in the early 1980s, every LVV I saw back then had play in the bearings! I've seen about twenty examples, half on LP12s, half on old Planar 3s (before Regas own arms became standard).

Oblivion the vile lair. I've also seen a lot more Rega/Lustre 'S'-shaped arms which had 'some play' too; every one of them! My point is if the human hand can feel 'some play' it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Nowhere is it documented that tonearm bearings with play sound bad or are out of adjustment. Contrarily, frozen or sticky bearings are very, very bad. Not only do they sound worse but many cause the arm not to play at all or skip grooves. Before I bought my LP12, I had a Sony turntable.
